Where oh where is spring?
Here in south jersey, spring is usually alternatively chilly and warm for march, and pleasantly warm by April. This year, we have had a freak streak of cold weather that has lasted through to the end of April! Wearing a winter coat yesterday ( 40 degree high with very chilly winds) was not my idea of spring! These are not profound thoughts, people. Just public complaining!

Tis a gift...
My family joined me for a great birthday dinner Sunday. Not everyone was there, but I am glad for those who were able to come. We were the nosiest table in the place! I got thinking about gifts, especially since I am making things to sell as gifts. I have to admit, I love presents. I love guessing what is inside the wrapped packages, tearing the paper, and (best of all) finding what is inside. This year, my husband and I went to a warm place in the middle of all this year's snow as the birthday present for each of us. So wonderful! Who knew two people who were raised in the south jersey woods could go so far?
But back to gifts. I remember my grandmother's delight when she would reach into her little purse for a quarter or two to give me as a treat. I think she had more fun giving it away than we had spending it. That is the spirit of giving I love. Delight in the little things. And in the bigger things if you give 'em or get 'em. Thus endeth the lesson.

Weaving and The Weavers
So my ever talented Dad made me a rag rug loom just from a few internet photos, and of course, it looks better than any of the others I have seen! I started in on my first rug, and am finding the process very meditative, with the notable exception of an ache in my shoulders if I weave too long...The crafts I am making seem to be drifting further and further into history. A definite sign of old age!
Speaking of old age and weavers, , I have been thinking a lot about that old reprobate singer Pete Seeger. I don't remember how I first heard of him, I think it was a PBS special or something. I am ( and I love writing this) too young to have any memories of his music while he was popular with the Weavers singing group. His unfortunate politics aside, I admire the man. He did pretty much what he wanted. Of course it helped that he came from a monied family. But he seems to have lived his life with passion. I don't claim to be doing the same. My life is very quiet mostly. But I do get to create crafts, play in my garden, and spoil the grand kids. Not too bad, huh?

Lizzy's Serendipity first blog post!
Hello and welcome to the official blog for Lizzy's Serendipity shop ! Just like the creations at my Etsy shop, this blog will be an unpredictable collection of writings from yours truly. Hopefully, my writing will be of some use, and if not, at the very least it will amuse....
As I begin once again to put my hands to use making crafts, I have turned to those old crafts which have historically been the homey, traditional, useful, and economically practical handiwork of women. Using the digital world to share about the old timey housewifery ( what a retro concept) is particularly ironic. I had a momentary rebellion against electronic socialization when the extent of the governments spying was revealed. And I still hate the idea (are you listening, NSA?) that my small life is monitored and stored. But since becoming a digital recluse is an impossibility, I have joined my practical sisters of history and have decided to use what ever is available as a promotional tool. And have some fun writing while I am at it.
So here I am. Thanks for reading, and come back again.
